Background
Established in June 1991 by Gordon Darling AC CMG to provide assistance to the Australian visual arts through Public Institutions, Australia-wide, the Gordon Darling Foundation was the first foundation in Australia to focus specifically on support for the visual arts.
Since then, over 1,300 grants have been awarded for a variety of visual arts projects including catalogues, professional development, exhibition development, art publications, research projects, symposia, and collection management initiatives, including collection digitisation.
The Gordon Darling Foundation also funds professional travel through two annual programs:
- Darling Travel Grants / International are available via competitive application. These provide opportunities for visual arts staff from Australian Institutions to undertake a focused international trip. This benefits both the individual travelling and their art gallery or museum.
- Darling Travel Grants / Domestic are offered to a number of public galleries in each State and Territory. These galleries nominate a suitable staff member for focused travel.
